Multi-rail protection for critical infrastructure and high-risk zones

In the highest-risk industrial environments, standard single or double rail barriers do not always provide sufficient coverage. Tall stillages, high pallet stacking and frequent heavy vehicle movement create impact risks at low, mid and high levels simultaneously. The Armco 1100D and 1100T Safety Barriers address all three zones in a single system. That is what makes them the specification of choice for the most demanding industrial applications. The Armco 1100D / 1100T safety barriers are a robust solution for warehouse environments.

Both systems stand at 1100mm high. The 1100D uses two stacked rails, covering the lower and upper impact zones. The 1100T uses three stacked rails, providing complete coverage from ground level upwards. Choosing between them depends on the risk level and vehicle types operating at the location. For most high-risk applications, the 1100D delivers sufficient protection. For maximum coverage in zones with the highest volume and speed of traffic, the 1100T is the recommended specification.

Hot dip galvanised mild steel construction

Both systems use mild steel with a hot dip galvanised finish to BS EN ISO 1461. This provides long-term corrosion resistance in demanding indoor and outdoor environments. The galvanised finish suits the full range of environments where these barriers are installed, from open HGV service yards and loading areas to internal warehouse perimeters and critical infrastructure zones.

Compatible with the full range of Brandsafe Armco accessories, both systems specify with polymer safety ends, corners and caps. These eliminate exposed metal edges at barrier run ends, reduce the risk of contact-related injuries and provide colour coded visual definition across the site. Optional pedestrian handrail extensions integrate into the system where pedestrian and vehicle traffic share the same space, creating a defined walkway alongside the multi-rail protection.

Armco 1100D / 1100T Safety Barrier rail configurations

The 1100D double rail system positions rails at 520mm to the centre of the lower rail and 920mm to the centre of the upper rail. This provides dual-level impact coverage across the full height of most forklift and HGV contact zones.

The 1100T triple rail system positions rails at 250mm to the centre of the lower rail, 590mm to the centre of the mid rail and 930mm to the centre of the top rail. This provides complete low, mid and high-level coverage in a single system, making it the preferred specification for zones where tall stillages, high pallet stacking or elevated collision risk from high-speed vehicle movements are present.

Both systems are particularly well suited to protecting sprinkler systems, fuel tanks, gas tanks and electrical infrastructure where the consequences of vehicle contact are most severe.

Post centres and installation

Post centre spacing depends on the impact risk of the location. For high-impact areas such as HGV turning points and busy forklift routes, 1.6m post centres provide greater rigidity and resistance. For lower-impact or straight run sections, 3.2m post centres are suitable and cost-efficient. Both configurations use the same components and fixings. That consistency keeps specification and installation straightforward across the full site.

Both systems use a Type B baseplate measuring 330mm x 250mm x 12mm thick. The 1100D uses double holed baseplates. The 1100T uses triple holed baseplates. The footprint depth of both systems is 409mm. Edge spacing conforms to a 100mm minimum. Centre spacing is 160mm x 210mm.

Floor anchors are M16 x 150mm galvanised throughbolts as standard. Alternative fixing methods including M20 galvanised throughbolts are available depending on site conditions and substrate requirements. Where the Armco 1100D and 1100T are specified

Both systems suit any location where full-height multi-rail impact protection is required in a high-risk industrial environment. Typical applications include HGV loading docks and service yards, forklift operating routes in busy logistics centres, zones near sprinkler systems, fuel tanks, gas tanks and electrical infrastructure, perimeter protection for warehouse buildings and plant machinery, and high-traffic warehouse aisles with tall stillages or elevated stacking systems.

For locations where dual-level protection at a lower overall height is sufficient, the Armco 760D provides the appropriate lower specification. For locations requiring commercial vehicle protection with an integrated pedestrian handrail at 760mm, the Armco 760HR provides that combination.
