Double-level impact protection for the highest-risk industrial zones

In high-risk industrial environments, a single rail barrier does not always provide sufficient coverage. Forklifts make contact at low level with their tines and bumpers. HGVs and larger vehicles make contact higher up. A single-rail system protects only one impact height. The Armco 760D safeguards both low-level and raised forklift tines at the same time. This dual coverage is what sets it apart.

The double crash rail configuration combines a lower rail at 180mm to the centre with an upper rail at 580mm to the centre. This provides comprehensive coverage across both impact zones in a single system. At 760mm overall height, it is the preferred specification for zones where high-volume vehicle movement creates a consistent risk at multiple heights.

Hot dip galvanised mild steel construction

The Armco 760D uses mild steel with a hot dip galvanised finish to BS EN ISO 1461. This provides long-term corrosion resistance in demanding indoor and outdoor environments. The galvanised finish suits open HGV service yards, loading areas and internal warehouse perimeters equally well. It performs wherever the barrier is installed.

Compatible with the full range of Brandsafe Armco accessories, the system specifies with polymer safety ends, corners and caps. These eliminate exposed metal edges at barrier run ends and provide colour coded visual definition across the site. Where pedestrian and vehicle traffic share the same space, optional pedestrian handrails integrate into the system to create a defined walkway alongside the double crash rail protection.

Post centres and configuration

Post centre spacing depends on the impact risk of the location. For high-impact areas such as HGV turning points and busy forklift routes, 1.6m post centres provide greater rigidity and resistance. For lower-impact or straight run sections, 3.2m post centres are suitable and cost-efficient. Both configurations use the same components and fixings.

Installation and fixing

The Armco 760D uses a Type B baseplate measuring 330mm x 250mm x 12mm thick with 4 fixing holes per post. The footprint depth is 409mm. Edge spacing conforms to a 100mm minimum. Centre spacing is 160mm x 210mm, conforming to a 100mm minimum.

Floor anchors are M16 x 150mm galvanised throughbolts as standard. Alternative fixing methods including M20 galvanised throughbolts are available depending on site conditions and substrate requirements. Where the Armco 760D is specified

The 760D suits any high-risk location where dual-level vehicle impact protection is required. Typical applications include HGV service yards and loading bays, forklift operating zones and warehouse perimeters, cold storage and logistics facilities, and manufacturing sites and industrial processing plants. It also suits any environment with high-volume vehicle movement where a single rail system would not provide sufficient impact coverage at both contact heights.

For locations where triple rail coverage is required, the Armco 1100T provides the appropriate higher specification. For locations requiring commercial vehicle protection with an integrated pedestrian handrail, the Armco 760HR provides that combination.
