Covering sharp Armco cut ends safely and visibly

Every cut Armco rail end presents a sharp, exposed edge. Left uncovered, these edges create a snagging and injury risk for pedestrians. They also leave a visible gap in the safety finish of any barrier installation. The Armco Safety End covers these cut ends cleanly and quickly. It provides a smooth, pedestrian-friendly termination that is both highly visible and simple to install. That is its primary function. It does it well.

The Safety End is also versatile. When two ends abut each other, they create a variable angle that functions as an internal or external corner. This makes it a dual-purpose accessory across any Armco installation, covering cut ends and enabling angled configurations without a separate corner component.

LLDPE construction with single point fixing

The Armco Safety End uses linear low-density polyethylene with a colour-fast UV stable formula. The material is robust, pedestrian-friendly and fully recyclable. It performs in indoor and outdoor environments without fading or degrading over time. Low maintenance is built into the design.

Each end carries two diamond grade reflectors for high-visibility termination at night and in low-light conditions. Yellow versions carry silver diamond grade reflectors. Black versions carry yellow diamond grade reflectors. Both deliver clear visual definition at the end of every barrier run.

Installation uses a single M10 x 35mm galvanised bolt set, which is included. No specialist tools are required. The single fixing point means the end fits quickly and securely to any pre-holed Armco rail. This keeps installation time to a minimum on site.

Two sizes for different applications

The Armco Safety End comes in two sizes. The small end at 135mm long suits tighter installations and shorter rail terminations where a compact profile is preferred. The large end at 240mm long suits longer terminations where greater coverage of the cut end is required. Both sizes suit 310mm x 85mm corrugated Armco rails and stand at 338mm high to align with the standard Armco rail profile.

Selecting the right size depends on the length of the exposed cut end and the visual finish required at the termination point. Both sizes use the same single point fixing and are fully compatible with all standard steel Armco installations.

Where the Armco Safety End is specified

The Safety End suits any Armco barrier installation where cut rail ends need covering safely and visibly. It is particularly well suited to locations where the barrier has been cut to a custom length on site and the cut end presents a sharp, unfinished edge. Typical applications include warehouse perimeter Armco runs, car park barrier terminations, service yard installations and any internal or external location where a clean, visible and pedestrian-friendly end to an Armco run is required.

For a more pedestrian-specific profile, the Armco Pedestrian Safety End provides a smoother termination designed for high-footfall areas. For a larger, more prominent vehicle-facing termination, the Armco Fishtail Safety End provides that alternative.

Supporting compliance and duty of care

Under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employers must maintain workplace infrastructure in a condition that does not place people at unnecessary risk. Exposed, unprotected Armco rail ends represent a foreseeable and avoidable hazard. Fitting a polymer safety end is one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to address it. That action is both straightforward and impactful.

The Armco Safety End provides a practical, low-cost control measure at every barrier run termination point. For facilities managers, H&S managers and specifiers, fitting appropriate safety ends across all Armco installations demonstrates a thorough and proactive approach to infrastructure safety. It also supports the requirement to manage foreseeable risks to a practicable minimum. The result is a safer, more visible and more professionally finished barrier system across the full site.
