Safe, controlled access through warehouse barrier systems

In warehouse and industrial environments, barrier systems define pedestrian routes. Access points within those runs require careful consideration. A gap in the barrier is a gap in the protection. The Pedestrian Safety Gate provides a controlled access point through any barrier run. It allows pedestrians to pass safely without creating a permanent opening in the system.

The sprung return hinge kit closes the gate automatically after each use. Pedestrian routes stay controlled without relying on operatives to close the gate behind them. This makes it a practical, hands-free solution for high-traffic access points. A propped open gate compromises the integrity of the barrier run. The Pedestrian Safety Gate closes automatically every time.

LLDPE construction, UK manufactured

The gate is manufactured in the UK from linear low-density polyethylene. LLDPE combines flexibility, impact resistance and long-term durability. No repainting or ongoing maintenance is required. The gate flexes on contact and returns to shape. Routine impacts from passing pedestrians or equipment do not damage the gate or require replacement. Low maintenance is built into the design.

The material performs across ambient, chilled and freezer environments. The operating temperature range runs from -40°C to 50°C. This makes it compatible with the full range of environments where the Brandsafe SEG, SEG+ and polymer barrier systems operate, including food production facilities and cold storage applications.

Gate dimensions and configuration

The gate panel measures 600mm high and 85mm deep with a full panel width of 1225mm. Two fixing positions on the post allow configuration of the gate opening between 900mm and 1200mm. This suits the specific barrier run and access requirements of the site.

Height options of 1000mm and 1100mm align with the SEG and SEG+ barrier system heights. Both meet the requirements of BS 6180:2011 and EN 1991-1-1 Eurocode 1 for pedestrian barrier compliance. Each gate arrives as a complete kit including the gate moulding, sprung return hinges (2 no.), signage panel and all required hardware.

Compatibility with the Brandsafe barrier range

The Pedestrian Safety Gate is compatible with the full Brandsafe pedestrian barrier range. This includes the Pedestrian Safety Barrier SEG, SEG+ and Double Bumper Pedestrian Barrier systems. It integrates directly into existing barrier runs, maintaining the visual and physical continuity of the system while providing a controlled access point. Compatibility is built in, not bolted on.

The gate is available in yellow or black, matching the standard colour options of the SEG barrier range. Specify it as a single gate for standard access points or as a paired configuration for wider openings up to 1200mm.

Where the Pedestrian Safety Gate is specified

The gate suits any location where a barrier run requires a controlled pedestrian access point. Typical applications include warehouse pedestrian routes and picking aisles, packing stations and perimeter walkways, mezzanine access points and loading areas. It is particularly well suited to high-traffic access points where operatives pass through frequently. A propped open gate at these locations creates a consistent gap in the site’s pedestrian protection. This gate removes that risk.

Supporting compliance and duty of care

Under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employers must keep pedestrian routes clearly defined and safe from vehicle encroachment. Where barrier systems define those routes, access points must maintain the same level of protection as the barrier run itself. A permanently open or uncontrolled access point undermines the compliance case for the surrounding barrier system.

The Pedestrian Safety Gate provides a self-closing, controlled access point that maintains the integrity of the barrier run at every pedestrian crossing point. For H&S managers, facilities teams and specifiers, installing self-closing gates at barrier access points demonstrates a proactive and complete approach to pedestrian route protection. It also supports the requirement to manage foreseeable risks to a practicable minimum. The result is clearer routes, fewer near misses and a safer working environment across the site.
