Uncontrolled vehicle speeds in residential areas, private car parks and access roads create a foreseeable risk to pedestrians, cyclists and other road users. The 50mm Domestic Speed Bump provides a simple, immediate and physical control measure. Drivers slow down before they reach it. That is the traffic calming point.
At 50mm high, this system suits domestic vehicles and light commercial traffic. It delivers consistent speed reduction to a typical 10mph operating speed across the full width of the traffic route. It does this without restricting access or requiring permanent groundworks. The modular kit installs on the surface and fixes securely to concrete or tarmac with all fixings supplied.
Each speed bump is moulded and compressed in the UK from recycled PVC thermoplastic. The material withstands regular vehicle traffic without significant degradation over time. It maintains its structure and visibility throughout its service life. That durability is built into the manufacturing process, not added as an afterthought.
The high-visibility yellow and black finish provides immediate visual identification of the speed calming point for approaching drivers. Four silver diamond grade reflectors are incorporated into each section, ensuring the system remains clearly visible in low-light conditions and at night. Visibility is built into the product, not dependent on separate signage.
The speed bump system uses modular mid and end sections that combine to create a consistent finish across the full width of any traffic route. Mid sections measure 420mm wide x 500mm long and fix using 4x M12 fixings. End sections measure 420mm wide x 250mm long and fix using 2x M12 fixings.
Standard kit lengths are 2500mm, 3000mm and 3500mm. This range suits the majority of residential and private access road widths. Each kit is supplied complete with all required fixings for installation on concrete or tarmac surfaces. Fixings are Rawl M12 coach screws 100mm long with form C washers and 14mm nylon rawlplugs. The fixture hole diameter is 14mm and the drill hole diameter is 12mm.
The system installs directly onto concrete or tarmac without requiring specialist groundworks or surface preparation beyond drilling. This makes it suitable for new developments, existing sites and retrofit applications. It also means installation keeps disruption to a minimum and can be completed quickly by a standard site team without specialist equipment.
For sites requiring speed calming on both surface types across the same location, the system performs consistently on both. No modification to the product or fixings is required between substrate types.
The system suits any low-speed environment where domestic or light commercial vehicle speeds need to be managed physically. Typical applications include residential developments and housing estates, private car parks and retail access roads, school and healthcare facility access routes, office forecourts and controlled access roads, and any location where vehicle speeds need reducing to a safe level without restricting access entirely.
For environments with heavier commercial vehicle traffic including HGVs and large goods vehicles, the 75mm Commercial Speed Bump provides the appropriate higher specification for those conditions.
Under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, site operators and facilities managers have a duty to manage foreseeable risks from vehicle movement in areas accessible to people on foot. Speed bumps provide one of the most direct and documented control measures available for managing this risk in low-speed environments.
The 50mm Domestic Speed Bump provides a practical, cost-effective physical control measure for vehicle speed management at these locations. For facilities managers, H&S managers, developers and site operators, installing a modular speed bump system at key traffic calming points demonstrates a proactive approach to site safety. The result is lower vehicle speeds, reduced collision risk and a safer environment for everyone using the site.
